Ten Space\u2019s Newberry Building renovation project has been named one of the top downtown revitalization developments in the entire Central Valley. The 2015 San Joaquin Valley Blueprint Awards has selected the Newberry Building for an \u201cAward of Merit\u201d in the category of Downtown Revitalization which included entries from across the eight-county region. The award is given to projects that exemplify strong planning principals such as strengthening and directing development towards existing neighborhoods and fostering distinctive, attractive communities with a strong sense of place.<\/p>\n

The Newberry Building was completed in the summer of 2015 and brings renewed vitality to an integral corner in Downtown Stockton. Before the renovation, the site of the former JJ Newberry Department store sat vacant and underutilized for years, contributing to blight and disinvestment in the area. Today, the Newberry Building is reborn, preserving the building\u2019s historic character while incorporating modern design elements and amenities. The building is now home to two Downtown Stockton dining staples (Papa Urb\u2019s, Alfalfa\u2019s Pizza and Deli), The Campus daycare and early childhood development facility, The Filipino American National Historical Society Museum, and the Child Abuse Prevention Council. Overall, the rejuvenation of the Newberry Building brings over 100 new jobs and hundreds more visitors daily to the heart of the city.<\/p>\n

Ten Space formally received this award on Thursday, October 8^{th<\/sup> at the 11th<\/sup> Annual San Joaquin Valley Fall Policy Conference at Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite. The purpose of the San Joaquin Valley Blueprint Awards program is to encourage quality in planning and development by recognizing outstanding achievements and practices in the built environment. In recognizing and celebrating projects that reflect the Blueprint Principles, the Council hopes to provide visual examples of attractive, functional and environmentally friendly projects that could have relevance throughout the Valley.
