The Cort Group Becomes Ten Space with a Focus on Investing in Downtown Stockton<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stockton-based Company is on a Mission to Restore Urban Cores<\/p>\n

Stockton, Calif., March 18, 2015 \u2014 The Cort Group, a major investor in the renaissance of Stockton\u2019s downtown, today announced it is changing its name to Ten Space to reflect its movement to advance people-centric development.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur new name reinforces our collaborative approach to creating community,\u201d said Ten Space President and CEO Zac Cort, a Stockton native. \u201cWe listen to what people want, build what people will use and benefit from, and create experiences, not just buildings. All of these elements are critical to creating a strong, self-sustaining urban core in Stockton and in other cities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ten Space team applies a philosophy to development that incorporates active mixed-uses into projects, sustainable building practices through renovating historic structures, and supports locally owned businesses. Cort said it\u2019s an approach that combines investment in real estate with investment in people.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore and more people want to live and work in active, dynamic and convenient urban locations instead of suburban car-centric areas. Thriving urban cores are pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods with a diversity of housing, retail, entertainment and commerce,\u201d he said. \u201cWe believe that Downtown Stockton, with continued investment in all facets of its core, has great promise to become a thriving neighborhood and economic engine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ten|Space is involved in several exciting projects underway in Downtown Stockton. They include: the Newberry building at the corner of Sutter Street and Webber Ave., closed since 1997, is being transformed into The Campus, a daycare center, Papa Urb\u2019s, a contemporary Filipino restaurant, and FANHS, Filipino heritage gallery and museum; Huddle, today is an active co-working space on East Miner Ave.; and, last December, the City of Stockton approved plans for Grand View Village, a 100-unit housing and retail complex on North Hunter Street.<\/p>\n

Ten Space\u2019s leadership is shaped by people with a keen interest in the value of creating thriving urban centers. In addition to Cort, the team includes Chief Brand Officer Tim Egkan. He is a San Diego native who worked on development projects in Sacramento and for the Center for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies in Australia, an organization that advocates for creating urban centers as spaces of vitality, cultural growth and environmental stewardship. Ten Space Director of Community Development David Garcia was born and raised in Stockton, and created Stockton City Limits, a blog dedicated to growth, development and urbanism.<\/p>\n
