Downtown Stockton’s walls are about to get a lot more colorful. A community’s revitalization is often led by the creative class, those who can take blight and envision something real and innovative. At Ten Space, we are committed to providing a platform to those bold enough to create in Stockton, and to that end, we […]

The future of Downtown Stockton is here

We’re all breathing a little easier this week at Ten Space. For the past several years, we’ve been slowly acquiring the pieces to create a wholesale change in Downtown Stockton. Why supporting local matters

What makes a city unique? Or a neighborhood? Or maybe just one specific block? At Ten Space, we believe that the character of place is defined by its authenticity. Chance encounters and downtowns

Recently, Vox ran an intriguing article on the way in which our decisions on where and how to live have affected the ability to keep and maintain friendships as adults. The commentary is enlightening, touching on how the desire for private, car-centric communities inadvertently cuts us off from our fellow humans. This observation rings especially true for Central Valley cities such as Stockton, which has largely retreated from its urban core in favor of far-flung, low-density housing.

The 2015 San Joaquin Valley Blueprint Awards has selected the Newberry Building for an “Award of Merit” in the category of Downtown Revitalization which included entries from across the eight-county region. The award is given to projects that exemplify strong planning principals such as strengthening and directing development towards existing neighborhoods and fostering distinctive, attractive communities with a strong sense of place.

Companies fleeing suburbia in favor of downtown

Last month, the Wall Street Journal ran a story titled “Companies Trade Suburbs for City Life.” The article noted that huge companies such as Expedia, Motorola, and PepsiCo had recently spurned their suburban locations for offices in more urban areas. These recent departures from sprawling office parks are nothing new; companies large and small have been relocating their offices—and their workforces—back into downtown cores for several years now, and not just to the big cities you might be thinking of. From Detroit to Chattanooga to Chicago to Las Vegas, small startup companies and giant multinational corporations alike are fleeing the suburban office park in favor of downtowns.
