Zac Cort – Ten Space Developement

We’re all breathing a little easier this week at Ten Space.

For the past several years, we’ve been slowly acquiring the pieces to create a wholesale change in Downtown Stockton. And on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016, the Stockton City Council recognized this work in the form of a unanimous vote to approve our ambitious, radical and even a little crazy plan to transform our downtown into the Central Valley’s premier urban core.

Our plan—known as the Open Window Project—includes over 1,000 new homes in Downtown Stockton, ranging from flats in new midrise buildings, to lofts in historic structures, to modern townhomes. We’ll also build up to 400,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, including new restaurants, shops, boutiques, art studios and markets. With the Open Window Project, we envision Downtown Stockton as the hub of the entire region, with walkable boulevards and enticing streetscapes complimenting the historic architecture of our city’s rich past.

That’s the vision the Stockton City Council approved last week.

This project is bounded by the best urban planning principles—mixed-use buildings, no surface parking lots, and structures that blend into the existing urban fabric.

With approvals in hand, Ten Space is committed to moving as quickly as possible to bring the Open Window Project from concept to reality. Very soon, we’ll begin site preparation, which entails the remediation of buildings and removal of blighted structures. And we’ve already started planning the project’s first phase with our design team.

This change will not happen overnight and more work lies ahead, but we’re determined to deliver on our vision of a vibrant, thriving downtown. In the meantime, we’re also working hard to bring local retailers to our core today. We’ve already seen a bold group of downtown pioneers lead the way, and we’re excited to see what new creators come forward to be a part of this monumental shift for our city.

We’ve been overwhelmed and humbled by the tremendous outpouring of support from Stocktonians. Over 100 supporters packed the council chambers last week to witness our approvals and to demonstrate to everyone watching that what’s happening in Downtown Stockton is a grassroots movement, fueled by the people of Stockton.

Thank you for putting your trust in us. Let’s build this downtown together.
